There are two type of drinkers, the ones that like their whiskey ‘neat’ and the ones that add water to make it feel ‘better’.
According to a recent study published in Scientific Reports, the latter category is doing it right. The reason for this is a molecule present in whiskey called guaiacol. The interaction of guaiacol with water is what decides the perfect whiskey – water combination.
The research showed that having around 45 percent or lower concentration of alcohol allows the guaiacol molecules to come to the top and in turn make the whiskey smell and taste better.
