The usage of additives in food items have always been a topic of debate among foodies. A new set of studies reveal that an additive called titanium dioxide aka E171 which is widely used in sweets, chocolate, biscuits and chewing gums could result in precancerous growth.
The experiments were carried out on rats and the additive caused precancerous growths in 40 per cent of the rats. It was also speeding up the developments of these growths concluding that it is indeed dangerous. The chemical is also widely used in toothpastes.
