The prime members of Amazon in Columbus are in for a treat as the E-commerce giant has taken a big step by launching the Amazon Restaurants service.
The service offers free one-hour food delivery from more than 50 local restaurants. Cafe Brioso, 6-1-Pho, Little Eater, Dos Hermanos, Donatos, Schmidt’s, the Carvery and Winking Lizard Tavern are some of the restaurants involved in the current phase.
“It is exactly what we would expect from Amazon. They are a more-than-$100 billion company, and they have aspirations of being much, much bigger than that. Getting into fresh and prepared foods makes sense. Food is a medium that is compelling to the consumer.” said David Portalatin, vice president and food industry analyst at NPD Group.
By entering the field, Amazon will compete with Skip the Dishes, Grubhub, UberEats, Cafe Courier and DoorDash, which are companies also strong in the area.
