A campaign which features giant bananas has been launched by the Welsh Government to increase the food recycling rate by 50 per cent.
Wales has already recycled almost half of its food waste and aims to do more. The idea behind ‘banana’ being the themes is the fact that 240,000 tonnes of Banana Skin which is thrown away could create energy.
According to the stats, energy produced from one caddy of food waste is enough to watch a football match on television.
“When we ask people in Wales why they don’t recycle their food waste, they tell us it’s because they don’t think they produce enough to bother. Unavoidable waste items, like tea bags, egg shells, potato peels and of course, banana skins aren’t edible but can all be recycled.” A spokesperson said.
