The price of Vanilla has almost quadrupled. The shortage in Madagascar, which is the world’s largest producer of Vanilla, is pointed out as the reason.
With the demand for natural ingredients on the rise as each day passes, the shortage of vanilla and the high prices has left some food producers stranded.
71 per cent of the World’s Vanilla fields are in Madagascar and the shortage has changed the price from $11 per pound in 2011 to $193 by the end of 2016. While the usage of artificial vanilla essence is an option, it would be interesting how far it could be used.
