Many news studies have figured out the relationship between cooking shows and the food choices made by people. The studies were mostly focussed on kids and the researchers could find that such programs can be used to promote healthy eating habits in the children.

A study published in the Journal of Nutrition, Education and Behaviour noted that children who watched healthy food programs were more likely to choose healthy diet options. Another study was able to conclude that children chose healthier food items if they were part of the food making process.

“The findings from this study indicate cooking programs can be a promising tool for promoting positive changes in children’s food-related preferences, attitudes, and behaviours,” said study lead author Frans Folkvord from Tilburg University.

Folkvord went on to suggest that providing such education at school itself is important to build a generation that craves for healthy food items.

“Schools represent the most effective and efficient way to reach a large section of an important target population, which includes children as well as school staff and the wider community. Positive peer and teacher modeling can encourage students to try new foods for which they exhibited distaste previously,” he noted.

Nevertheless, if you are looking to get your kids to eat some healthy food, try making them watch the healthy TV programs out there.
