Eating competitions can be fun. But at the same time, these can be the cause of deaths. Last month, two deaths were recorded due to choking while participating in such competitions.
While deaths are rare occurrences, eating competitions are also known to cause other problems such as weight gain, cholesterol levels and hikes in blood pressure to people who regularly contest. Stomach perforation and water intoxication are two other major problems associated with the competition.
“Professional speed eaters eventually may develop morbid obesity, profound gastroparesis, intractable nausea and vomiting, and even the need for a gastrectomy.” A study suggested.
