Dietary salt in packaged food has reduced heavily

A new study suggests that the packaged foods and beverages no longer have a large amount of dietary salt in them. Earlier, a number of dietary salts in such food items was a topic of concern for the people.

The amount of salt has gone down by about 18 percent from 2000 to 2014. Despite the reduction, the people in the US are consuming more than the recommended amount of sodium.

“Households are getting less sodium from the grocery store, but I think it’s important to know sodium in packaged foods is still way too high,” said lead author Jennifer Poti, of the Department of Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
