Only a few food items are on track to meet salt reduction targets, study suggests

A new research has found that only a few food items in the United Kingdom are on track to meet salt reduction targets. Among the list of manufactured products, only bread rolls are likely to meet the 2017 targets.

“The UK was leading the world in salt reduction, but PHE are doing nothing to ensure that the 2017 salt targets are met,” Graham MacGregor, a professor of cardiovascular medicine at Queen Mary University of London said.

Campaigners are now making noise to make new targets for 2020 as the Public Health England has failed to keep up and cover the targets for 2017.
