The wastage of food is continuing to be a major problem around the globe. And latest stats suggest that the food that Americans throw away is enough to feed the world.
A study recently conducted suggested that the food that has been thrown away in the nation is enough to feed around 84% of the World’s population and that too on a 2,000 calorie diet. The main reason why there is such wastage is confusion regarding the food that people eat.
The study suggests that not knowing when the food is unsafe to eat is what’s leading to such heavy wastage.
‘Although only a portion of discarded food can realistically be made available for human consumption, efforts to redistribute surplus foods where appropriate and prevent food waste in the first place could increase the availability of nutrients for Americans, while saving money and natural resources,’ a spokesperson noted.
