When it comes to hydration, we have an impression that water is the best option. Water is indeed required for the healthy functioning of one’s body. But this is not necessarily the best option for dehydration.
A new study has revealed some drinks which are more effective than water for hydration. The list was made based on the quickness of the beverage getting absorbed into the blood stream.
Surprisingly, the top hydrating beverage is skimmed milk. It was followed by Oral Rehydrating Solutions, Full Fat Milk, Orange Juice and Diet Cola. Cold Tea, Tea, Sports Drink, Still Water and Sparkling Water make up the top ten. Coffee is also in the list in but it comes in 12th position, one behind Lager.
Milk is considered to be more hydrating than water because of its nutritional values which includes sugar lactose, protein and fat.
“This study tells us much of what we already knew: Electrolytes – like sodium and potassium – contribute to better hydration, while calories in beverages result in slower gastric emptying and therefore slower release of urination,” the authors noted.
So if you are feeling dehydrated, you know what you should drink first.
