Iran is turning this food item into jewellery, here’s why

It’s natural to fall in love with jewellery. People opt diamonds, silver, gold or any other precious metal but Iranians are going for onions.

While this might sound like a ridiculous fetish, it is actually a protest against the rising prices of onions in the country. According to BBC, the price of onions quadrupled from 1000 tomans per kilo to 4,400 tomans recently. The black market and a slight reduction of production are pointed out as the reasons for the sharp rise in price.
