Not consuming enough meat, milk and other food from animal sources is apparently bad for pregnant women. The lack of consumption of such foods increases the chances of Vitamin B12 deficiency which in turn could result in preterm birth.
The study was conducted surrounding 11,216 pregnancies from 11 countries and the low levels of B12 were found to be associated with risk of preterm birth.
“Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient found only in products of animal origin such as meat, milk and eggs. Pregnant women who consume too few animal-derived foods increase their risk of developing a vitamin B12 deficiency,” one of the researchers noted.
