RE-f-USE, which is a community interest company, has managed to raise an amount of £15,000 target to refurbish a new cafe in Chester-Le-Street.
The specialty of the café will be that it will serve food which could be thrown out to waste if not picked up. The community was set up by Nikki Dravers and Mim Skinner back in 2015 and they had been serving as a pop-up café till now.
The company has hosted 26 events so far and saved more than 3800 kgs of food from being wasted. And they work by finding ingredients in the regions supermarkets, wholesalers and others and picks up food items that would otherwise be thrown out.
