Wrapping food in newspaper is one of the most common things that we do. Especially when we are eating street food, the trend is almost guaranteed.
However, the latest studies have proven that wrapping food in newspaper could lead to some major health hazards.
Poisonous on the longer run
Doing so can result in slow poisoning due to the cancer causing agents that are present in the newspaper ink. The same was revealed by The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Covering food with newspaper is one of the widely seen phenomenon in the country.
“Besides chemical contaminants, presence of pathogenic micro-organisms in used newspaper poses potential risk to human health. Older people, children and people with compromised vital organs and immune systems are at a greater risk of acquiring cancer-related health complications if they are exposed to food packed in such material,” said a statement from the organization.
