A pilot project by Oceanside in San Diego County is aiming to turn kitchen scraps to compost piles. In the trial project, around 1600 households participated in the trial and Oceanside homes are planning to expand it to around 40,000 homes in a time period of two years.
The process involves participants collecting their food waste in small buckets which will then be collected by the volunteers. This would then be dumped into a green waste bin which is converted into compost.
With food wastage being a major concern, such projects around the United States deserves some attention.
