U.S calls for less confusing expiry date labels

If you are someone confused by the complex expiry date labels on the food products, then worry no more. A movement is in place to only include the ‘best if used by’ date rather than other complex methodologies.

The U.S. Department of Agricultural have asked the food companies to use the ‘best if used by’ method in order to cut down food wastage.

“Research shows that this phrase conveys to consumers that the product will be of best quality if used by the calendar date shown,” the guidance reads.

The movement comes in form of Food Safety and Inspection Service guidance and there isn’t a compulsory need to follow it.
