In an attempt to curb food wastage, a new website has been launched which encourages the truckers to donate the rejected food item to the needy people.
Certain food items are rejected due to not meeting industry standards, but at the same time, most of these food items are edible. With people suffering from hunger on a large scale, making use of such food items rather than wasting them is a good sign.
The website named IndyFoodDrop.org helps the truck drivers to find the nearest food dropping point so that they could avoid wasting it.
“The FDA tells us that over 50% of the food, especially perishable foods in America, are thrown away. And that’s perfectly fine food. A lot of it is just kept in the field, because it has one small imperfection,” explained John Whitaker, Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank.
