Spice can do wonders for a meal, turning your average dinner into something much more memorable. But if you overeat spicy foods, the heat it creates can impact more than just your taste buds.
The following ailments may cause if you overeat spices.
- Acid reflux: Spices are a combination of acids. When too many of these acids are introduced to the stomach, it starts damaging the walls of the stomach.
- Damage taste buds: If you eat too much spicy food, it could cause permanent damage to your taste buds over time.
- Loss of appetite: Moderate amounts of spicy food are okay. For instance, you can eat 2-3 times a week, but definitely not daily. You can experience a worrying loss of appetite if you overeat spicy foods.
- Gastric ulcer: If you over eat-spicy foods, it can aggravate ulcers in the sensitive mucosal lining or in the small intestine. It can sometimes affect the oesophagus which makes it worse. These ulcers are extremely painful, further causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and weight loss.
Try and reduce spicy foods as much as you can in order to avoid harming your stomach. It is also found that spicy food is a risk factor for gastric cancer.
