In what proved to be a shocking decision, Bangkok administration has announced that the city’s food vendors will be removed from the streets.
Bangkok was voted as the World’s Best destination for street food recently for the second year in a row. The move, however, comes as an attempt to improve cleanliness on the city streets. Chinatown and Khao San Road, which are known for its street food will also feature in the cleanup plan.
“The BMA is now working to get rid of the street vendors from all 50 districts of Bangkok and return the pavements to the pedestrians. The street vendors have seized the pavement space for too long and we already provide them with space to sell food and other products legally in the market.” A government spokesperson noted.
