How delayed food introduction could result in allergies in the future


A new study has shown that delayed introduction of potentially allergenic food to babies can lead to food allergies later on in the future. The study was conducted by the Canadian Healthy Infant Longitudinal Development (CHILD).

According to it, the infants who were not introduced to food items like dairy products, eggs and peanuts were prone to develop allergies as they grew older.

“Food sensitization early in life is associated with an increased risk of wheeze, asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis in later childhood,” said Dr. Malcolm Sears, co-director of the CHILD Study and a professor of medicine at McMaster University.
