A group of researchers from Finland has come out with a way to produce food from electricity. While it would be a long shot to call it consumable food, it’s a good start indeed.
The experiment was carried out by mixing three ingredients into a bioreactor and supplying electricity to it. After the electricity was passed, the coffee-cup-sized bioreactor gave a power which had around 50 % protein, 25 % Carbohydrate and the remaining portion full of fat and nucleic acid.
The new development is expected to be a huge breakthrough as it could solve hunger problems on a large scale. Along with human food, the scientists are also working on powders which can be fed to animals.
