Restricting access to fast-food will not reduce chances of obesity, study suggest


A new study has found that the reducing the access to fast food is not likely to reduce the chances of obesity in individuals. The study was conducted by the Indiana University Research and it compared residential environment with the BMI of the individuals subjected to the research.

“Fast food is generally not good for you, and supermarkets do sell healthy food, but our results suggest blocking the opening of a new fast-food restaurant or subsidizing a local supermarket will do little to reduce obesity,” Coady Wing from IU’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs noted.

The database used for the study ranged from 2009 to 2014 and covered around 1.7 million people from 382 areas.
