Why apples should be kept in the fridge and not in fruit bowls

If you are keeping apples and oranges in fruit bowls, it’s time you reconsidered your decision. This is according to a new guidance issued by waste charity WRAP.

The reason for this is the ethylene gas that apples produce. Ethylene has a huge impact on other fruits and vegetables and can make them go bad at a fast pace. For instance, the spinach can wilt if stored with apples. Similarly, fruits like bananas and blackberries can ‘turn’ if they are exposed too much to gas that apple produce.

Apart from apple, apricots, avocado, cranberries, and figs can also have the same impact on other foods.
