How Nutella almost caused riots in French Supermarkets last week

Nutella drove French Supermarkets into a chaotic situation last week with their huge discounts. The hazelnut spread was up for grabs for a 70 percent off discount in some of the supermarkets in France.

This, without much, surprise, led to pandemonium as the customers were out to get their share of the discount.

“They are like animals. A woman had her hair pulled, an elderly lady took a box on her head, another had a bloody hand. It was horrible,” one customer at the Rive-de-Gier store in the Loire region told Le Progres.

And the fun fact is; the numbers back this up. Around 26 percent of the World’s Consumption of Nutella happens in France.
