How eating Ultra-processed food is linked with cancer

A new study has suggested that the regular consumption of ultra-processed food could increase the chances of one developing cancer.

For the uninitiated, ultra-processed foods are those food items that are made in factories with the usage of ingredients which are not usually used in our kitchens. These include the likes of noodles, ready meals, cakes among others.

The study was conducted by a group of researchers based in Paris and they found that increase in consumption of ultra-processed food by 10% can increase the chances of cancer by 12%.

“If confirmed in other populations and settings, these results suggest that the rapidly increasing consumption of ultra-processed foods may drive an increasing burden of cancer in the next decades,” says the paper in the British Medical Journal.
