Our obsession with superlatives is usually overlooked. It’s no different when it comes to foodies as well. From sweetest to the hottest, we are usually in awe of food items that belong to the superlative categories but not many of us are aware of them by names.
And this is why we have decided to introduce the World’s hottest pepper – The Carolina Reaper.
Originally named HP2BB, the Carolina Reaper holds the Guinness World Record for being the hottest pepper in the world. It was announced as the hottest chilly in the world in 2013 when it surpassed Trinidad Scorpion Butch T.
The hotness of the pepper is usually measured using the Scoville scale and the Carolina Reaper measured a whopping 1.5 million on average SHU. And in case you were wondering, the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T had a Scoville scale value of 500,000 to 1,463,700 which is slightly below the Reaper.
