OFM Food Awards 2018: Here’s the food personality of the year

The 2018 edition of the Observer Food Monthly Awards (OFM Food awards) was announced last day. Backed by Marks & Spencer, it rewards the finest in British food and drinks.

Jack Monroe won big at the OFM Food Awards

This year, OFM has chosen British Food writer and Activist Jack Monroe as the Food Personality of the Year 2018. The 30-year-old Monroe is known for campaigning on poverty issues and hunger relief.

Monroe initially rose to fame with his blog called ‘A Girl Called Jack’ and then went on to feature in many major publications in the United Kingdom. The blog is now renamed to Cooking on a Bootstrap.
The name was kept so because Monroe focuses on recipes that can be cooked on a tight budget.

“Anyone can cook brilliantly if money’s no object and they’ve got all the equipment and skills at their disposal, but if you’ve only got a tin of tomatoes and a tin of sardines, you need to know your stuff – how to balance those flavours, how to knock that slightly fishy taste out of the sardines,” Monroe notes.
