Obesity and Income: How they are related

If you thought that the amount of money that you earn has no relation with your chances of obesity, think again. According to a new study, people with lower incomes are more likely to be obese. This is due to psychological distress which in turn, makes them eat too much.

Emotional eating, which is a result social economic status was found to be one of the major reasons of obesity in the current generation

“The reason for socioeconomic disparities in obesity levels is often attributed to the greater availability of low-cost, calorie-dense foods in more deprived areas relative to more affluent neighbourhoods. However, there is limited evidence for an association between local food environments and obesity, indicating psychological and emotional factors may also play a role,” it was noted.

The authors also noted that further studies will be required to confirm the current conclusions.
