The risk of cancer is usually high when our lifestyle is an unhealthy one. And most of the things that we assume to be healthy might turn out to be something entirely different.
Take protein for instance. It is considered to be one of the most essential nutrients for a healthy life. However, a study has found that eating too much protein can increase the risk of cancer. The study was published in Cell Metabolism and was done by Valter Longo who included 6,138 participants.
To speak numbers, the risk is increased by around 4 per cent if you are consuming protein beyond the daily need of your body.
On average, a human body needs around .8 grams of protein per kilogram of its body weight. Exceeding this can have some bad impact on your body. Also, if your protein source is mainly red meat, then things are bound to be worse.
One way in which we can keep a tab on this would be to cut back on the protein intake. But at the same time, we should make sure that we are providing the required amount for our body.
