Ketogenic Diet: The Shocking Origin Story You should know

The ketogenic diet has based on the idea of limiting carbohydrate intake and consuming fats instead. It will put your body in a ‘fasting state’ where it will burn ketones instead of glucose.

Ancient Greek physicians recommended restricting one’s diet to treat issues like epilepsy and other health problems.

The role of fasting in the treatment of health problems has been known to mankind for thousands of years. Dr. Russell Wilder designed the classic keto diet, which measures four parts fat for every one-part protein and carb.

The keto diet was developed to provide an alternative to the fasting, which had demonstrated success as an epilepsy therapy.

According to a clinical trial conducted at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2008, the ketogenic diet reduced the number of seizures in 40% of children who participated by over half. Those who did not experience better seizure control still reported increased alertness, awareness, and responsiveness.

Although the keto diet’s original purpose was to mitigate epileptic seizures, it’s now used as a weight loss diet.

In addition to weight loss, the keto diet also offers several other health benefits like improving cognitive functioning, reduce inflammation from high blood sugar, slow the spread of various cancers, reduce sugar addictions, increase female fertility among others.
