Did you know that Sandwich is named after a British Lord?

The origin stories of food items are always fun and the case with Sandwich is no different. The food item is named after British lord John Montagu, 4th earl of Sandwich as per Britannica.

He was the British first lord of the Admiralty during the American Revolution and it was his habit of gambling which is believed to have given birth to sandwiches.

Back in 1762, the lord spent around 24 hours at a gaming table without food. Due to the lack of time he had at the table, he asked someone to bring him slices of meat between slices of bread which is considered to be the origin of sandwich by many.

Though the story and the claims are doubtful, it is indeed a story that makes sense considering all the similar origin stories that are out there for our favorite food items.
